Banks Babies – all your questions answered

It’s a Banks Photography baby boom!  I have been shooting tons of babies lately and have had so many questions that I thought it would be a good idea to create a blog post dedicated to giving you details about our baby shoots.

1.  Do you offer 1 year baby packages?  Yes.  Our one year packages include maternity, newborn, 3, 6, 9, and 12 month sessions.  Sessions can include DVD of images with printing rights.  Please email me if you are interested in viewing the full price guide.

2.  When and where do you shoot newborn sessions?  Newborn sessions are shot in your home or mine in the first two weeks of life.  Peaceful, sleeping babies and the best for shoots and you will find this  type of baby mostly in the first two weeks.

3.  Do you have baby props?  Yes.  I have a handful of things that I love to shoot with but I am also open to you providing blankets, bowls, baskets, etc.  It is always fun for the family to use things that have meaning to them!

4.  Should we, the parents, be in photos?  Until the baby is at least 6 months, you should plan on being in the photos.  Sometimes babies do not cooperate (I know, surprising 🙂 but if you are able to hold the baby and be in the photo, we can still get great stuff!

5.  Should I wait to shoot the 6 month session until the baby can sit up?  Yes!  Most babies will sit on their own between 6-7 months.  It is best if they can sit on their own for the 6 month session.  I can then capture a big step in their development.

6.  Do you offer 1 year books?  I do offer 1 year books.  I have high end coffee table books, smaller albums for grandparents, and affordable press products.

7.  How long are the sessions?  My baby sessions are generally 30 minutes.  The newborn session can range from 30 minutes-1 hour depending on how cooperative the baby is.

8.  How long does it take to get the DVD?  The images and DVD are ready 1-2 weeks after the shoot.

9.  Can I make payments on the 1 year package?  Yes, you can definitely make payments.  You will make a full session payment at each session and then the discount will come on the final session.

10.  Do you offer a referral bonus?  Definitely!  For each person you refer, you will receive $20 of Banks Bucks, good towards any session, class, or product that we offer.

11.  Where can I view more of your baby work?  Please view our work on the website or on Facebook.

That all being said, I would LOVE to shoot you and your baby during the first year.  We are now taking new baby clients for 2012-2013.  Please email if you have interest in our first year package or individual sessions.

And here are some shots from our recent baby shoots!

Eat clean – day 25!

Can’t believe I’m almost there.  Day 30 is so close!  That being said, I am not stopping there.  Just going to continue this lifestyle.  Once you get rolling it’s hard to stop.  I have felt so great these past 30 days!  I have not been perfect but I am definitely close.  I have had 2 cheat meals in 25 days and a third one on its way this weekend.  I also treat myself to coffee with a little cream everyday.  It is my lifesaver.  OK, enough of the rambling, let’s talk menu.  I have had super great feedback on chicken fried rice, jambalaya, kung pao chicken and turkey breast in the crockpot.  What have you liked?  Need some feedback.

Meal 1:  Black bean soup (add shredded chicken) – revisions to this recipe are as follows:

1.  Use frozen corn (no sugar added) instead of canned corn

2.  Use organic black beans

3.  Use organic/clean tomatoes (Krogers had these on sale this week!)

4.  Add shredded chicken if you want some meat (my husband cannot eat soup without lots of meat!)

Meal 2:  Spaghetti with meat sauce – I made up my own recipe for this sauce.

1.  4 cans organic tomatoes

2.  2 lbs ground Jennie O turkey

3.  1/4 chopped fresh basil

4.  1 pepper – diced

5.  1 small onion – diced

6.  Olive oil

7.  salt and pepper to taste

8.  Garlic – 2-3 cloves

Pour oil into pan and saute the peppers, garlic and onions.  Add turkey and brown in pan until cooked through.  Puree tomatoes in food processor then pour into crockpot along with the meat mixture.  Add basil.  Cook on low for 4-6 hours.  Serve over whole grain spaghetti noodles.

Meal 3:  Thai Coconut Shrimp

Snack idea:   Cranberry oatmeal and chocolate peanut butter no bake cookies – both are awesome!  The first recipe calls for Chia seeds.  You can find these at whole foods in the bulk section.

Time to get cooking!  Give me some feedback!

Clean Eating Menu Week 3

Wow!  Can’t believe I am already posting week three meals!  I made it to day 14 without cheating.  Today I had a cheat meal and it was less than stellar.  Chips and salsa were good but the meal was cold and unimpressive!  Kind of sorry that I cheated.  Anyways, I am really excited that so many of you are joining me on this journey.  I am happy to say I am on a roll right now and so are many others.  Gotta stay strong and say no to sugar and preservatives.  I know a handful of girls that have already lost 4-6 pounds just by eating clean for 14 days.  That is amazing.  Here are some fun menu items to try next week!

Also, on a side note, I saw a new crockpot that I really want!  It has a cast aluminum insert that you can use on the stove to saute veggies and meat first and then just put into the base to finish cooking.  Genius!

Week 3

Meal 1:  Southwest meatloaf – Clean Eating Magazine

2 poblano peppers

1 jalapeno pepper

1 white onion sliced

2 lbs lean ground beef or ground turkey

1/3 cup whole wheat bread crumbs

1 egg

1 clove garlic

1 tsp chili powder

1 tsp fresh ground pepper

Pinch of sea salt

Preheat over to 350.  In pan blacken all peppers and onions on both sides. Dice onions and set aside.  Move peppers to a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.  Set aside for 10-15 minutes.  When cool enough to handle, remove the blackened skills and dice peppers.

Combine all ingredients in bowl and form into a loaf.  Bake for 1.5 hours.

Meal 2:  Jambalaya – This recipe is from  Very tasty!  I made it for my family that came into town this weekend and the whole pot was gone!  I made the following revisions:

1.  Eliminate the sausage

2.  Saute veggies and chicken in pan before putting in crockpot

3.  I also added my brown rice to the crock pot.  I added 3 cups broth for every cup of rice.  I think I added in total 6 cups broth and 2 cups rice.  Cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4.

Meal 3:  Cilantro lime Chicken  – Revisions are

1.  use clean salsa – I make my own

2.  use clean taco seasoning – They have some of this at Trader Joe’s or use this recipe!

Love to hear feedback on these recipes!

Ringing in the New Year – Jessica and Nick

What a way to finish our weddings in 2011 by ringing in the New Year with Jessica and Nick in downtown Columbus.  It was a grey gloomy day in Columbus but we weren’t going to let that stop us from making some great images!  I met Jessica through her cousins who got married a few years ago.  She made a beautiful bride and rightly so because she is a professional model and actress in LA!  Gotta love shooting photogenic people.  After hitting some hot spots in town we headed to the rooftop of the Sheraton downtown for a few city shots.  We then wrapped the shoot and headed inside the bring in the new year.  Thanks Jessica, Nick and family for a great party!

Nothing better than a nice blue wall!

Gotta love a bridal action shot!

Clean eating – Meals week 2

As I am enjoying day 3 of my clean eating lifestyle, I am planning ahead for next week.  That is one of the biggest downfalls diet’s:  people do not plan ahead.  We all want to grap food go and of course if we don’t have something prepared we grab what’s in a bag or box because it’s convenient.  In order to be success with your eating, think ahead!  Let’s look at next week and start buying the food that we will need.  Breakfast and lunches will remain the same or you can do some research on clean eating breakfast and lunches ideas.  My friend Amie tried the onion dressing from the salad and dressings link in the previous post and said that it was delicious!  One other thing that I would like to address is the statement that “clean eating is bland”.  It can be unless you use more natural seasonings:  garlic, onions, pepper, etc.  I love flavorful food so I always add more than it calls for!

Week 2 menu plan

Meal 4: Kung Pao Chicken (clean eating magazine – you need to get this magazine!) side dish, fresh fruit salad or lettuce salad

12 oz chicken breast cut into cubes

1/4 cup raw unsalted peanuts

2 green onions diced (I add more for flavor)

2 tsp rice vinegar

2 cups cooked brown rice

1 tbsp olive oil

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (add more if you like spicy)

2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

1 clove garlic (I add more!)

1 tsp fresh grated ginger root (I add more of this too!)

In a wok or skillet, heat oil on medium high.  Add pepper flake, chicken and peanuts and cook for 5 minutes stirring frequently.  Stir in 1/4 cup water, soy sauce, garlic, giner, onions and vinegar.  Bring to a simmer and cook for 3 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink inside.  Serve with or over top of brown rice.

I double this recipe for leftovers!

Meal 5 – Fish tacos –  Thanks to my friend, Pam, for finding this one!

Meal 6 – Nut crusted chicken with fresh green beans and red skin potatoes (I cook these in a pan with olive oil, red onion and fresh garlic) Yum!!!!!

Now I want to hear, how is it going?  Post comments please!
