So here is the place for you to get to know me, Karla Banks!
How long have you been shooting and where did you get your start?
I have been shooting professionally for 16 years. That makes me feel old! My photography experience began by working with Harrington Photography in Three Oaks, Michigan. I never thought I would be a photographer and actually majored in English education in college. During my studies, the Harrington’s referred a bride to me and I shot my first wedding. From that event, I booked three other weddings and the business began! For the first four years after graduation, I taught English and shot weddings until I moved to Columbus, Ohio. I took the leap, quit my teaching job, and pursued photography full time. God has blessed me beyond what I could ever have imagined!
What is your favorite thing to shoot?
I love shooting people. I love the emotions, the interactions, and the relationships that I photograph every day. I have made so many great friends through my shoots. Since photography is so personal, I learn a lot about my clients during our times together.
What do you do when you are not shooting?
I love spending time with family, working out, playing sports, shopping, cooking, and decorating my house. My husband, David, owns Plain City Fitness so I have become a workout junkie of sorts. I teach a bootcamp class two mornings a week at his gym. Also, I took up tennis this year. My kids, Brooklyn, 7, and Isaac, 5, keep me busy with their activities! I am very social and love entertaining friends at our house. As you can see, I am pretty much all over the board!
What else should we know about you?
I am super easygoing, down to earth, and personable. I love my business but am not all about business. I love that my business allows me a life that I love. I love the freedom to make my own schedule, to be home with my kids, to travel when I want, to have a creative outlet, and to meet new people. I work hard when I have to and don’t work at all when I want! I always strive to be better at my job but work just as hard to be a better mom, friend, and wife. I thank God for blessing me with a talent that allows me to do all of it.
